Perry Ogden

Positive/Negative

Perry Ogden is working with the Holy Spirit Boys National School.
At the start of the commission each of the twenty-four participating boys was issued with a Minolta camera and taught the basics of photography. Ogden routinely took the boys around their neighbourhood, to take photos of their own environment and of their families, and encouraged them to become totally comfortable, with using their cameras. Many of the boys started using the camera on a daily basis, and a changing, critical perspective of their environment is evidenced by their final work.

In April 05, Missing the View, an exhibition and publication marking the culmination of two years' work by the boys with Ogden, opened in Axis. The boys' photographic work will also feature in the fabric of the new Youth Facility building.
The project is in association with the Hugh Lane Gallery.
