11 Coultry Gardens
September 2003
"Superbia" re-framed an ordinary family home as a place for reflection on the assumed commonality of familiar domestic environments. The three bed-roomed home of the Mangan family, who were moving into a new house as part of the regeneration scheme, was converted into a gallery for three weeks. The exhibition, which transformed the house into a site for the uncanny, the humorous and the insanely nostalgic, attracted huge numbers of visitors, both from the local constituency and from further afield.
Amidst the furniture and personal belongings that the Mangan's had left behind, Brandes and Harte curated an international group show. Work by Hans op de Beeck, (Belgium) Joyce Pensato, (USA) Nick Laessing, (UK), Yves Tremorin, Samuel Rousseau and Malachi Farrell, (France), Matei Bejenaru, (Romania), Isobel Nolan, John Duffy, Shane Cullen and Laura Gannon, (Ireland), alongside work by the pupils of Gaelscoil Bhaile Munna and the Trinity Comprehensive School was installed throughout the house.
