Composer Elaine Agnew, worked with musician and teacher Ron Cooney along with eighty children from St. Joseph's National School and from the Ballymun Senior Comprehensive, to compose and perform an impressive piece of contemporary music, 'Fire'. The seven-minute piece dramatically reflects their experience of their changing physical environment. First performed in Axis, the Ballymun Arts Centre in April 2003, the work was so well received that it was subsequently recorded by BBC Northern Ireland in February 2005.
Copies of the CD are available from the BG office.
The commission gave the Ballymun Windband Project the opportunity to consolidate its reputation by working with a highly regarded contemporary music composer.
As a result of this commission, further funding has been committed to the project by the DIT Community Links and the Department of Education and Science. Also a new commission with the students of the Ballymun Senior Comp and the contemporary jazz ensemble, Fuzzy Logic has been awarded by Breaking Ground.
Limited edition CD available on request.
