'From Demo to Breakthrough' was launched in axis arts centre, Ballymun on the 5th of September 2005. The project was devised by axis and Will O'Donovan as a music competition open to all genres and based on the quality of musicianship evident in a demo of original material.
Over 200 entries were judged by a panel of music industry professionals that included Paddy Casey and were rated under the categories of song writing, originality, musicianship and potential.
The best six acts performed a showcase gig in axis on the 9th of December 2005 and Liam McDermott was crowned winner. Liam recorded an EP with former Sony producer, Will O' Donovan.
His prize winning EP, "I Need to Get Away" features three songs; 'I Need to Get Away', 'Life's Alright Again' and 'My New Love' and was launched in the Voodoo Lounge on the 21st of February 2006. Liam also completed an in-store promotion gig in Tower Records, Wicklow Street.
