Through 2002 and 2003, Ultra red organised public fora, talks, and radio broadcasts. Calling the work ‘ The Debt’ in recognition of the work of local activists in securing the state’s commitment to regenerating the built and social environment in Ballymun, Ultra red brought together residents from the social housing communities of Ballymun and Pico Aliso in Los Angeles, to discuss issues pertinent to both. Five members of the Ballymun Women’s Resource Centre and of the St Pappins Ladies’ Club travelled to Los Angeles and five members of Union de Vecinos in Pico Aliso travelled to Ballymun to compare public housing policies in either place. The collaboration culminated in public performances at Project, Temple Bar, and the Youth Facility and Axis in Ballymun. A set of twelve cd’s: recordings of the many actions, consultations and local soundscapes from Ballymun was also produced. The Debt was developed in co-operation with Ultra-red, the Union de Vecinos, the Ballymun Women’s Resource Centre and The Metropolitan Complex.
