Janice Feighery

Janice was commissioned as part of the Local Artist’s commissioning strand, and has been exploring social judgements that exist in Irish society.

She has been working with a group of women who were among the first generation to move into Ballymun in 1968. 'Can I invite you home for tea?' involved 5 invited artists calling separately for some tea and conversation in the homes of the women in Poppintree.

As part of one of the events organised under Nolan’s Hotel Ballymun project, Janice organised 'Afternoon Tea' in the Hotel, which brought together artists, residents and a group of invited women from the surrounding areas of Santry and Glasnevin. This social event enabled Janice to link up with all those invited to explore the subject of social judgements.

In 2008 she produced a publication called 'The Secret Garden', a concertina style book comprising of images of a secret party by wemon from the area. The book was launched and featured as part of the 'Art in the Life World' group exhibition in May 2008, at the old swimming pool in Ballymun.

The book will be permanently installed in the Civic Centre Atrium in Ballymun in Spring 2009.
